We had an AMAZING vacation in North Carolina! We did nothing extra on vacation, no special trips no extra outings to see any special sites, just went to the vacation house on the ocean and relaxed for the week. There was a pool there that Bennett LOVED and the ocean just 200 yards away, which Bennett also loved. He really liked the sand at the beach and especially smashing the sand castles immediately after they were made. We scooped up some sand crabs in his bucket but that he was NOT a fan of! The ocean was so choppy and rough that there was no swimming in it, really anything knees or deeper was asking for serious trouble. We just sat on the edge and waiting for the waves to come and splash us :) the salty water is not my favorite (after all I did grow up on Lake Michigan) but really you can't complain about seeing the ocean.
We had more than enough food for the week. We went to the naval commissary in Norfolk before driving down to NC. I planned a few too many meals but hey, we didn't really have to leave the house for anything and didn't even go out for dinner all week. The daily routine was wake up at 7 (Bennett was so kind to sleep REALLY REALLY WELL all vacation) probably because he was in our bed all week, make breakfast, hang out, go to the ocean, come back clean up, lunch, nap, pool, hang out, dinner, sleep. Just wonderful!!!
Grandma Karla, grandma Tris and grandpa Tim all came down to visit. Grandpa rented a motorcycle, Bennett was pretty intrigued by it and liked it for the most part. Now that we're back home everything with two wheels or that is loud is a motorcycle. Bennett also recently got a tricycle and that's a "motorcycle" as well.
There was also a pool table and a video game to play. Bennett and I had no idea how to play the video game but we made the star wars Lego men jump around on screen for awhile. Bennett stood on the cooler and played pool with us, pushing the balls around and tracking them up in the "triangle".
Grandpa was fairly behaved this visit and didn't try to teach Bennett t too many bad things. He did give him a good lesson on how to dunk his cookies in his milk.
We were very grateful to have family to come and see us but deeply missed the ones that couldn't come down. We will see everyone soon one way or another.
GOODBYE SUMMER! Hello fall.
